ReInhabit Makes Old CA Bungalow in Atwater Village New Again

ReInhabit is a real estate development firm who takes great pride in referring to themselves as artists doing construction. Their niche is bringing old homes back to life while being sensitive to a dwelling’s existing character and charm. So, when they got their hands on this CA bungalow in Atwater Village they stayed true to form.

The original dwelling measured a mere 468 square feet and sat to the rear of the lot. They decided to enlarge and modernize the residence by adding 500 square feet to the front of the existing structure.

Instead of just “building new” they salvaged what they could and sourced materials from other places. They preserved most of the original siding, windows and doors. And according to their site the, “front porch Redwood that was once part of a West LA music studio, and the wine-barrel planks that add texture and gorgeous patina to the gable. A Murphy bed that was native to the home has been restored and put back into use. Wood flooring in the living room and Master Bedroom come from Downtown LA’s Silverado Salvage, and refurbished lighting has been procured from M & M Electric of Pomona.”

Throughout the home modern amenities blend with classic and period details. ReInhabit even replaced one wall along the main portion of the house with an automatic roll-up door that seamlessly ties the open living-dining-kitchen space to the outdoors by opening to a deck.

Their devotion to add a unique quality to every home they re-imagine is brilliantly executed by commissioning established graffiti artist, Fuse, to paint the kitchen cabinets. (Nice touch!)

If you work from home the garage turned studio space makes a perfect home office. The home last sold in 2014 for $675,000. The home is listed by Thomas Inatomi, asking $819,000.
