Anonymous Architects’ House in Trees is up for rent in Echo Park

Completed in 2015, Anonymous Architects’ House in Trees features a massive cypress tree growing up through the floor of the second bedroom and right out the ceiling.

The design firm, led by Simon Storey, told Dezeen, “It is an unusual paradox to have such a natural setting that occurs in the middle of Los Angeles – a city known for its endless sprawl and crawling traffic.”

Hidden amongst the towering cedars on a steep hillside located at 1955 Park Dr in Echo Park, the exterior is wrapped in cedar siding with 750 square feet of cantilevered decks spanning two levels, allowing an effortless indoor-outdoor flow and access to canyon views and hours of endless sunsets.

Measuring 1,800 square feet, the three-bedroom, two-bath home features retractable glass walls, custom-made bookshelves that double as stairs, a gas fire pit, solar hot water, an electric car charger, and a lofted playroom.

“Rooms bleed into each other but can also be sectioned off quite easily. There are custom bookshelves that form a staircase you can crawl up to read on. The living spaces are compact and make good use of space; you don’t feel cramped. There is natural light everywhere, as well as views shrouded in just the right amount of foliage,” says Wallpaper.

There’s also a second living room, second kitchen and third bedroom that can be used as an independent mother-in-law space, or integrated into the main living space.

Across the street from Elysian Park’s hiking trails and near neighborhood cafes, bakeries, and independent grocers, “The city is a block away, yet this spot feels otherworldly, close to nature.”
