Songtress Lourdes Hernández and hubby Zach Leigh transformed a tired-looking 1920s Spanish-style residence into a dreamy Los Feliz Shangri-La.
After transforming and residing at The Ruby Street, a 4,000-square-foot event space in a historic Arts and Crafts building in Highland Park, Lourdes desired a more walkable neighborhood. She told Domino, “We walk everywhere in Madrid,” she says. “You take that for granted until it is taken away from you. It’s this thing you can’t identify that makes you less happy.”
Gated for privacy, the couple’s home at 3112 Waverly Drive opens to a front yard with a pool. “They installed in front of the house (where there was more room) along with a firepit and fence to always be party-ready. Hernández often invites people over and makes paella outside.”
The structure sits to the rear of the property, where the once tired-looking brick facade is now refreshed in white punctuated by the large original arched windows.
Soaring ceilings and herringbone floors set the stage for a glamorous yet laid-back living space. Opting for mainly white walls, there’s a fun mix of “finishings and furniture in muted greens, blues, and pinks that are punctuated with whimsical touches, like a graphic animal-print rug and her handmade woolen tapestries. The kitchen is an ode to Southern California with pistachio cabinets offset by a marble island, copper-topped barstools, vintage-style Smeg appliances, and pastel pendant lamps.”
