Schindler’s restored Wolff House seeks $1.5M in Sherman Oaks

Rudolph Schindler‘s Wolff House in Sherman Oaks is on the market for the first time in almost 15 years.

Declared Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument No. 828, the homes sit on a corner lot at 4000 Sunnyslope Avenue wrapped in “plaster skin,” an inexpensive alternative to concrete utilized by placing stucco and plaster over wood frame.

Known for his creativity, the Austrian born architect “called his own special form of modern architecture ‘Space architecture,’ which focused on the design of interior space.

Inside the two-bedroom home measuring 1,668 square feet, you’ll experience changes in color hues on the walls as natural light shifts throughout the day, streaming through large panes of glass and clerestory windows.

Low-hanging ceilings give way to large open spaces highlighting features that include plywood paneling and built-in furniture and shelving. Outside, mature landscaping surrounds the house. And there’s a koi pond with a waterfall providing ambient sound, adding to the zen-like feeling.

Last sold in 2006, the property is listed with Louis Delaura for $1.499 million.
